Luca is a talented musician, born to two successful musicians. He started his musical life playing the piano, trumpet, clarinet, and bass clarinet in fourth grade, then quickly switched to trumpet and violin. He has also composed since eighth grade in a style akin to Prokofiev. Luca has studied violin with Sean O’Neill (Sarasota Orchestra), Aaron Romm, Vince Penzarella (retired assistant principal trumpet of the New York Philharmonic, co-principal of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, principal of the New York City Opera Orchestra, and principal of the Baltimore Symphony), Jon Faddis (a former member of the Lionel Hampton big band, lead trumpeter of the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra, sideman with Dizzy Gillespie, Blue Mitchell, Cedar Walton, Stanley Turrentine, and more), Brandon Lee (jazz trumpeter who has played with Clark Terry, Rodney Whitaker, Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, and many more), and has immersed himself in jazz language and studies hour-after-hour on his own.
At age 13, Luca was asked to play “Beethoven’s Fifth Secrets” on stage with the world-renowned Piano Guys. Additionally, he won an audition to participate in Itzhak Perlman’s Winter Residency Superstrings program held in Sarasota, FL. Luca has had the privilege to play over 20 operatic works with the Anna Maria Island Orchestra. Recently, he was selected as an alternate for the Jazz Band of America's trumpet section. He frequently performs in recitals with his teacher, at nursing homes, with the Church of the Palms Orchestra and also plays trumpet regularly with the Tampa Bay Jazz Club, The Blue Rooster, and the Fifteen South restaurant on their Monday night jazz jams. For the past three years, Luca has been a winner in the Venice Musicale Scholarship Competition on violin, and was awarded a total of $3100 in those three years. In 2016, the Sarasota Jazz Club awarded him $500 to pursue summer enrichment programs. Last year an anonymous donor offered him $5000 if he could fundraise on his own as well, and he raised an additional $3000 on top of the $5000 to use towards summer programs.
Previously he has attended: Interlochen Summer Camp (top orchestra [violin] and jazz ensemble, solo jazz-chair [trumpet]); the Luzerne Music Center, violin and trumpet; Sarasota Orchestra Summer Camp, the Skidmore Jazz Institute, the Brevard Jazz Institute, and New England Music Camp as concertmaster on violin and lead trumpet.
He has been a member of the Sarasota Youth Orchestra program on violin for 7 years, and has performed with the top of seven orchestras for the previous three seasons. He is currently sitting as assistant-concertmaster.
