Young, Talented, and most importantly, walking in freedom! With a new hit single on the rise rightly entitled “LYL”(Live Your Life) Derek Thompson is ready to take the world to another level. “I had the God blessed treasure of having a personal private concert and Derek's gift touched me in a way that hasn't happened in a very long time. God truly loves him and shows us how much He loves us when Derek uses his instrument.” says Laurie Huber Unger of North East Maryland.
​At the age of three Derek started singing and knew he wanted to sing for the rest of his life. In the fifth grade, Derek would put on concerts for his fellow students at the end of the month during their last period. Many first place awards were won with his home church choir, school choirs and singing groups. By age 20 Derek was ready to go solo and further his career. June 10, 2008 Derek released his first album titled “Talking with a Stranger”. Derek had a local taste of success when the late Baltimore DJ “K-swift” gave one of his songs short air time on 92.3 (92Q jams, Baltimore MD). Then on April 10, 2012 Derek’s second release “Born in the Old, Shaped in the New was released. This was a gospel record where Elevated Praise was the leading single with a follow up of “Count it All Joy”. This album won Derek many awards and goes down in history as a classic. After that album, Derek took a few years off to really find himself. In 2015 Derek came back and had another hit single titled "Grace Factor" and has been working ever since!

​Derek is now ready to show the world his true self through the new music and other endeavors. Derek would like to show men and woman, young and old that living in your truth is refreshing. The title “LYL" says it all.

Not only does Derek have a gift to sing but he has been in many stage plays, and even appeared in the Netflix series "House Of Cards"!
