Prime Echelon is a 3 piece all black Alternative Rock band from Johannesburg, South Africa. We started out in the year 2012. In the process of discovering ourselves, we entered our first competition in the year 2013, The Klip Drift Battle of The Bands of which we didn't do so well but this competition had opened our eyes into who we are, and where we want to go as a band, as the year progressed the band fell apart, which left the drummer and lead vocalist behind. We then decided to go acoustic, performed as much as we could, we targeted mostly at open mics and at every music event we could connect to. Towards the end of 2013, a bassist we had asked previously to join us had finally agreed to join us. With no drum kit we continued playing acoustic sets and in the beginning of the year 2014, we were sponsored with a drum kit. Things started shaping up for us, we had entered into a new sound, all our acoustic songs took a new direction. We pressed on and started entering competitions. We entered the My Band Project, in the year 2014 of which we came out 3rd, later we entered the Battle For Rumours and we made it through to the finals. We are currently struggling to get ourselves a demo, but we keep on pushing to get recognition as we are the only black Alternative Rock band in Johannesburg that we know. We are currently gigging as much as possible, 2-3 gigs per week. We always get a positive feedback after each performance and we hold on dearly to these remarks.
What makes us connect as a band is our passion for music, we are very passionate about music, mostly alternative rock. We are inspired by bands like Paramore, The 1975, City and Colour, Zebra and Giraffe, Gangs of Ballad, Walk The Moon, Cold Play, Civil Twilight, Daughter, Versa Emerge, solo artists such as Chris Brown, Drake, Taylor Swift and many more in that genus.
