Barbra Streisand plans release of new collection of 10 previously unreleased studio gems
Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings, a division of Sony Music Entertainment have announced that they are set to release the first new Barbra Streisand album title since 2018’s Walls.
Release Me 2, a new collection of ten unreleased studio performances from Barbra Streisand is a timely successor to her successful 2012 album Release Me, which entered the Billboard 200 at #7.
Barbra gave fans their first sample of Release Me 2 with her June 4th release of “I’d Want It To Be You” - Barbra’s high energy duet with Willie Nelson. Produced by Walter Afanasieff & Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, “I’d Want It To Be You” was recorded in 2014 and 2020.
You can watch the video for “I’d Want It To Be You” here.
Release Me 2 features songs written by famed writers and tunesmiths like Hl David, Burt Bacharach, Barry Gibb, Randy Newman, Harold Arlen and “Yip” Harburg, Carole King, Paul Williams/Kenny Ascher, and Walter Afanasieff/John Bettis.
The release also includes an enchanting studio performance of the Walter Afanasieff/John Bettis composition, “Sweet Forgiveness,” a triumphant and emotional ballad produced by Walter Afanasieff & Barbra Streisand that was recorded in 1994.
Another great song of note is Barbra’s interpretation of Randy Newman’s “Living Without You”. Having been remastered and fine-tuned for Release Me 2, “Living Without You” was arranged & produced by Walter Afanasieff & Barbra Streisand and recorded in 1971 and 2020, with the original vocal produced by Richard Perry.
Release Me 2 will be available as a digital album and also CD digipak with a 32-page booklet featuring liner notes by Barbra Streisand and Jay Landers, the album’s executive producers. The album will be available Friday, August 6, 2021.
