British rock band Coldplay rose to worldwide fame in 2000 when they released their single “Yellow.” But they formed years prior, and have had an interesting journey along the way. Here are some fun facts about Coldplay that you may not have known.

They released an EP entitled “Safety” back in 1998. Only 500 copies of it exist.
The first official Coldplay song is “Ode to Deodorant” written as a joke.
When penning the song “Yellow,” lead singer Chris Martin spotted the phone book “The Yellow Pages” and descried that the word yellow would fit the song.
There are actually 5 version of the song “Lost!” released in 2008. They are "Lost+", "Lost@", "Lost?", "Lost-" and "Lost!" One version is recorded with piano accompaniment and another features Jay-Z.
The band actually borrowed their name from another band who didn’t want the name any longer – the original Coldplay found the name too depressing.
Their original band name was “Starfish.”
Chris Martin once travelled to his show by underground transport. Despite being surrounded by fans also travelling to the concert, not one person recognized him.
The band refuses to let companies use their music in ad – they have rejected inquiries from both Diet Coke and Gap.
Coldplay HQ used to be a bakery in North London.
