"Music is pure art, we create beauty in the world around us with it."

Inspired by the heartfelt music of Russia’s successful cellist Alexander Kniazev at age 13, Georgy Gusev was forever changed when 'entering the world of music'. "I was hypnotized by the voice of his cello, from that day on I was in love," he gushes. "It is like a religion to me." GEORGY_PLAY.jpg

In fact, the Russian-born artist studied at the prestigious Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow and graduated from the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, where he not only perfected his musical skills, but also discovered a new approach to classical music - transforming the sound of the cello.

As part of his 'Cello Drive' concert series he combines the sound of the ancient instrument with modern elements of visual art, images and poetry, all stemming from a variety of different cultures and countries, creating a whole new musical experience.

"Everything is possible in cello, because every instrument has its own soul. People need to open their souls to the sound and really listen. Because when they start to do so, it can save their lives."

Georgy shares a special bond with the cello he named Anne, which is 200 years old: "You really need to enter a relationship with your instrument to start and play it. It's like a child, you have to be very careful. I actually always have to pay for a second seat on the airplane when I travel overseas,“ he laughs.

His goal is to inspire and connect people and truly help them to feel happiness within themselves: "A lot of magic is happening within these instruments. As a cellist you need to  believe in its magic and try to explain it to your audience."

Georgy is a professional in his field and has worked with internationally renowned cellists like Mstislav Rostropovich, Maria Kliegel, Garry Hoffman, Philippe Muller, Michael Flaxman, Natalia Gutman and others throughout his career. He also teaches as a docent in Italy and Russia and organizes educational concerts in lectures with the famous French violin maker Mathias Menanteau.

Currently promoting his work in Los Angeles, Georgy had the chance to work with ISINA’s mentor Walter Afanasieff, who inspired him to even grow further: "He started to improvise on the piano and I started to play on the cello. Immediately we could see that something great was about to happen. It was truly magical.“
