Kenny G and Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds Latest Collaboration

The last time our head of the Instrumental department and our head of the vocalist department collaborated musically it was 2010. Kenny G’s thirteenth studio album, Heart and Soul, effectively combined Kenny G’s musical talent with Babyface’s melodic voice and our President and Grammy-award winner, Walter Afanasieff and producer.

The two musicians collaborated again this weekend at The WAVE’s Soulful Christmas 2014 concert. The festive concert featured Kenny G, Babyface, and Brenda Russell.

The Soulful Christmas concert has become an annual holiday event that attracts some of the best Smooth Jazz and Soul artists in the Los Angeles area. Previous years’ entertainment has consisted of After 7, Kem, the Calvary Temple Community Mass Choir and Kenny G.

This year’s concert brought audiences the sleek sound of Babyface’s songs. Being a 10time Grammy winner, I’m sure most of his songs are easily recognizable to just about everyone. If you haven’t heard him sing, you’ve definitely heard some songs he’s written or produced. Babyface has worked with many other hit makers, like Ariana Grande, Toni Braxton, Whitney Houston and Boys II Men.

Kenny G, another incredibly recognizable name, performed as well. We’re sure you’ve heard of Kenny G. He has seen huge success and fame since his fourth album in 1986. His talent on the saxophone is nothing short of amazing, and his record sales prove it. He is the biggest-selling instrumental musician, and one of the best-selling artists of all time with more than 75 million records sold around the world.

Brenda Russell also headlined, a singer whose songs “Piano In The Dark” and “Get Here” have made her famous. She also wrote hit songs for many other artists like Peter White, Luther Vandross, Donna Summer and many others.
