I am James Escalante and music has always been my passion.
i started by how a lot of young musicians start. learning how to play the main riff to Deep Purples smoke on the water. Guitar started about when i was 8 and has been off and on ever since. I always had a hunger for other instruments and the one that always called out to me was the drums. When i was 12 i took classes for 4 months learned the basics then left classes and started to learn how to cover songs from Metallica's Enter Sandman, U2's Bullet in A Blue Sky all they way to Job For A Cow Boy Entombment of a Machine. The drums always called out to me i always knew it was the heart and basic structure to most songs; always carrying the beat you dance too. At age 13 i desired to learn more about music but stuff i did not know about so i decided to join my middle school marching band and orchestra. I had to try out for drum line and percussions and made it. I learned to play everything from Bass drum, Snare drum, Xylophone, Bells, timpani, even the Triangle. i did not continue in high school but then decided to go back to self teaching myself Bass, ukulele, and the last instrument i have learned piano. I am not fluent As much as i use to be but i can still pick up any of these instruments i learned and have a good time. by the time i turned 19 Dance music ruled my life but did not know how to continue or pursue this hunger i had for it. So i downloaded an app on a tablet that let me start mixing on touch screen. My thought process was if i can master this by the time i get a DJ controller i can hit the floor running; which is exactly what i did when i turned 20. Since then it has been a year of mixing music and DJing for myself, parties, local events and posting online mixes on soundcloud monthly. July 18 (my birthday) Jimi Rich my DJ persona turns 1 and for my second year i will continue to strive for my goals as it is now to learn how to produce music myself. I love using other peoples music to express how i feel and manipulated it to my liking but its time i make something of my own; which now has lead me here.
