How To Treat Your Fans

How To Treat Your Fans

1. Fans are actual people, they are not just numbers.

You need to make your fans feel like they are more than just a “follower” on your social media accounts. So many musicians have become obsessed with hitting the next “follower” milestone and often forget that the fans that helped get them where they are. Spend time showing your current fans how much you appreciate them instead of constantly counting how many more followers you need to reach a million. Your current fans have always been there for you, and now you need to show them that you notice that.

2. Your fans don’t want to talk to a robot.

When fans reach out to you online you need to take the time to answer them. They can see right through any automated response and appreciate any type of communication you share with them. Make sure you respond with a personal touch because this shows your fans that you care about them.

3. Show your fans your world

Bring your fans with you wherever you go and remember to be real with them. If you’re upset, share that with them. If you can’t wait to release new music, let them know. But most importantly, remember to create a dialogue. You should never talk at your fans because constantly focusing on yourself will slowly deteriorate the personal connection that you have built with your fan base. Instead, talk with your fans. Ask them what they thought of your last performance, give them exclusive information before the blog write about it, and always show how much you appreciate them. They are part of your journey now and they want to be right beside you every step of the way.

4. Follow through on promises

It’s very important to meet the expectations of your fans. If you promise the release of a new video or song on a certain date, then you need to deliver on that promise. You may think that your fans will understand of a piece of music is not ready and you just want it to be perfect, but with every fan that “gets it” there will be two more who will take their loyalty elsewhere. Now you may think that the best way to deal with this issue is to stop promising things to your fans. That doesn’t work because your fans expect clear and constant communication from you. Instead, you need to under-promise and over-deliver. For example, if you announced new music coming in the next couple of days, you should release multiple songs instead of just one. That way your fans will get more than they expected and will know that they can trust you.

5. Constantly thank your fans

It may seem like we’ve already discussed this topic to death but it really is the most important way to show your fans that you love them. You need to remember to vocalize your appreciation for their support after every single event. Thank your fans after a show, a meet and greet, an album release, a single release, and so on and so forth. No reason is too small for a quick “thank you”. This is an easy way to make sure that your fans know that you recognize that you would be nothing without them. After all, they are the reason you get to do what you love. Let them know that as often as possible.
