From Our Applicants: Brian Shiel, Music Engineer
My name is Brian Sheil. I'm a Music Producer/Mixer/Engineer from Ireland.
When I was just 7 years old, I began learning to play keyboards with my music mentor, Dale Hennessy - totally inspired from records my Mam and Dad used to listen to in the car, from Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Sinatra, Bryan Adams and Kenny Rogers.
I continued my keyboard studies throughout my formative years. When I was 16 years old, I setup an internet radio station which I called Klubb FM - again inspired by listening to all my favourite records on the top radio stations at the time. I wanted to replicate how stations made those records sound. I learned so much from this adventure and it helped my self development and presentation style when I applied to bigger FM stations to present my own radio show.
In 2011, I had my own show on Ireland's National Broadcaster, RTE Pulse, for 2 years. My own internet radio station is still broadcasting today at www.KlubbFM.com.
In 2008, I began studying at Pulse College and completed a 2 year Advanced Diploma course in Music Technology and Sound Engineering, where I graduated with distinctions.
During this time I also began to develop my own recording studios at home - recording, producing and mixing records for local and national artists and bands from across Ireland & Europe. I am open to producing many genres, but over my short career so far have gravitated to producing traditional classical pop, country, pop and folk music.
I then went on to complete a 3 year Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in Music Production. I graduated top of my year and with First Class Honours.
I achieved my first Number 1 in the Official Irish Album Chart & iTunes chart an engineer/mixer on 'The Simple Things' album by country music star, Derek Ryan
Something I am very proud of is a short documentary which I produced and presented entitled 'Blast From The Popular Past' - It can be seen here: http://youtu.be/jk7j4u6gnu4
This video was part of my final year University thesis and is about recording and production techniques used in the 1980s. It will also give you a further insight in my personality and details of the project I undertook.
I hope I can earn a place on this amazing program to further enhance and develop my production/engineering and business skills, but also learn from the best in the business. It is my wish move to Los Angeles to further my career.
Thanks a million, ISINA.
