Genevieve Goings Sings Her Way to ISINA

Genevieve Goings Sings Her Way to ISINA

To music fans, singer Genevieve Goings is known in the R&B and Neo-soul genres. To parents, she is known as Genevieve from Disney Junior's Choo Choo Soul.
Goings started out in music at an early age. Both of her parents are musicians, and she grew up in front of audiences. Through years of performing, Goings has developed her vocal talents and honed her skills. She started her career in the San Francisco Bay area making hip-hop music, and her style has evolved into a range of R&B, Hip Hop, Rock, Soul and dancehall since then. Today, she can be heard on over 65 albums.
In 2003, Goings co-wrote and released an album with her band “Legato.” Along with producer Roland Apikelis a composer, piano player and former dancer for Prince, Goings toured the West coast promoting the album.
Next up for Goings was the female duo, "Chemistry" with Cait La Dee. The 2 ladies performed in the Bay Area, singing melodic harmonies over producer Gennessee’s beats.
Going’s first solo album was "Diversity Personified," which she promoted through tours and distribution.
During her time in the Bay Area, Goings was asked to lend her voice to a video game for Xbox called "ToeJam & Earl III: Mission to Earth." That video game developer, Greg Johnson, would later become the co-creator of "Choo Choo Soul," a full-length album of children’s songs that would later be purchased by Disney and turned into a popular short clip series.
The first Choo Choo Soul album was debuted in 2004 as a 16-track studio album and was described as “kids’ music that won’t drive parents crazy.” That original album is now out of print.
In 2006, a Choo Choo Soul album was released by Walt Disney Records. It was a 12-track album available through iTunes. It featured most of the songs that were on the original Choo Choo Soul album. That same year, a series of Choo Choo Soul shorts began airing between shows during Playhouse Disney. Parents and kids both loved the music videos featuring Goings, her beat-boxing partner, dancing children and computer animation.
In 2007, Goings was honored with a Parent’s Choice Award for children’s television. The following year, Disney released another disc set that consisted of a CD and a DVD featuring the music videos. The duo began touring regularly across the US and Canada.
in 2008, Genevieve began working with Disney English, a division of Walt Disney Publishing that teaches English in China. To date, Goings has written over 100 songs for the musical curriculum, including an entire phonics program.
In 2011, Choo Choo Soul got a slight makeover when they filmed 8 new videos, all remakes of classic Disney songs. In addition to the Choo Choo Soul videos, Goings also contributed the network’s theme song and other short songs.
In 2013, Genevieve was hired by Fisher-Price for the re-branding of the "Little People" toy line, writing, producing and performing original music for the brand. Along with assisting in the creation of the new characters, Goings voiced the teacher "Miss Hugg" and scored two episodes of a web series for the Little People.
In 2014, Genevieve released an independent Children's Album called "Do You Know?," a presentation path of fundamentals for preschoolers delivered in her unique, soulful style. Goings is currently touring schools across the country, and just made a stop at the White House to read a story and turn the pages for the First Lady Michelle Obama as she read one, too.
If you’re a parent, it’s easy to hear and see Goings’ work on the Disney channel. In her ten-year career with Disney, she has become the voice of Disney Junior, the host of Radio Disney Junior, and narrates the Disney Princess stories for Disney Online. The Choo Choo Soul videos still play each day, introducing a new audience to Going’s beautiful, soulful voice. With her singing experience, and the ability to cross over multiple genres, ISINA is lucky to have her join our team as an instructor.
