Hey there! :)
I'm a 28-year-old Spanish singer and songwriter. I majored in English and I've been working as an English Language Consultant since then, although my true passion has always been singing and songwriting.
I've been doing so ever since I can remember. My parents taught me how important it is to go to college and receive a good education, that's why it was not until I graduated that I started to consider singing as more than a hobby.
In 2013 I became one of the finalists of a new boyband project launched by Spanish DJ and producer Carlos Jean for the critically acclaimed Spanish TV show El Hormiguero. Although I wasn't finally chosen to become a member of the band (who cares, Christina Aguilera didn't make it on Star Search either. Lol), my performance was praised by Spanish pop diva and vocal powerhouse Mónica Naranjo. Her words boosted my confidence, so I began contacting producers, video directors, photographers etc. to start making my dream come true.
Two years after that and despite not having the support of a label, I can proudly say that everything I have released has charted on iTunes, I've been the opening act for huge artists here, I have appeared on teen magazines I used to buy when I was like 15 (this was pretty surreal, haha), plus I have had the chance to meet incredible people in the business who have been helping me since then. I'm so happy with everything I have accomplished simply because there has never been a marketing strategy behind me. It's been all hard work. However, I've got the feeling that my music is not appreciated enough in Spain. I sing and write in English. I became addicted to gospel and soul after watching Sister Act. Spanish singers who sing in English are not very welcome here unless they're already very well established. It's kind of frustrating, but I refuse to be a sell-out. I'm a message guy, and I don't wanna disappoint myself.
It is being a tough road as it's difficult to juggle my job as an English Language consultant and my music career. It is certainly worth trying though.
Los Angeles happens to be my favorite city in the world. I've been there a few times. And, obviously, as a singer, it's like a theme park for me :). I want to continue learning from the best. I'm pretty much new in the business and all I want to do is have the chance to be understood by people who actually get my vision and the reason why I sing and make music.
Wow, I'm sorry about the long message. Thank you very much for taking the time to read it.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Warm regards,
Dami
