About
Dear Staff:
My story is as followed...
I'm a Native of the Bluegrass State, Louisville, Kentucky, which is were I was born. I first expressed his initial instrument of choice, the flute. My interest later changed to the saxophone when I was impressed with the late Grover Washington, Jr.
I furthered his musical knowledge at Pensacola Junior College (PJC) in Pensacola, FL and University of North Florida (UNF) in Jacksonville, FL, where I was mentored by Joe Yorio, saxophonist and multi-intrumentalist.
During my musical journey, I committed over 10+ years of my young life to the U.S. Navy before committing to music.
During this time, I grew up listening to Kenny G, Kirk Whalum, David Sanborn, Najee, Gerald Albright, Dave Koz, the late Art Porter and George Howard. I became truly inspired by a phone call from the late George Howard. A conversation and experience I’ll never forget. I also had the pleasure to meet and play a solo before Rebbie Jackson (a Sister of Jackson 5) and her family during a weekend show in Las Vegas.
Since then, Marcus has continued to travel and also perform locally in Jacksonville, Florida. To name a few notable events, I performed for the Convoy of Hope, a Superbowl & NFL Sponsored Event. Also, I've opened up for Miles Jaye, R&B Artist. I also received encouragement from famed percussionist Sheila E., as well as encouragement and advice by Nelson Rangell and Najee.
My interests are sports, cookouts, fishing, listening to various genres of music, trying different foods and playing with my 2 sons, whether it's Lego toys or jamming on our instruments.
My passion is playing my sax, with the hope of obtaining more knowledge to keep growing and mastering my craft, along with the hope of obtaining management so I can play aboard. I love my sax!
Thank you,
Marcus
