I cannot remember a time when I wasn't making things. It started as a two year old free-styling with legos and other building toys, as most boys do at that age. I have no talent for cooking, but that never kept me from trying out a creative recipe I'd thought up in the kitchen. Poetry and fiction are arts I indulge in occasionally. I can remember ambitions of being a creator of games (board games or computer games, it didn't matter) Truly though, music has been the most satisfying creative endeavor I could ask for. Discovering Mozart and Beethoven at age twelve changed my life. I could not get enough of the music, the practice, the history and times of these and other hulking geniuses whom really did change the world. I wanted to change the world too.
Throughout grade school I warmed up to popular music, which I had eschewed for a long time. By high school I was writing and fronting for a few bands, honing my song craft. This was in addition to weekly trips to Philadelphia for piano and composition studies. I was able to receive a scholarship to the Boston Conservatory where I continued composition studies. It was a comprehensive and thorough program, and during my four years there my songwriting made leaps and bounds (more so than the more "serious" works I was also completing).
With my degree earned I've been able to find good employment as an organist, teacher, and arranger. There are several commissions I have pending for dance and voice and that is very exciting. However, my real dream is to find a successful outlet for all these songs I've written. I miss performing, and as a composer, the opportunity is seldom necessary.
My style is nothing if not eclectic. I cannot write the same song again and again. Some of the prevalent styles heard would be grunge, dance, a sense of form taken from pop, but harmonies that are not afraid to be classical in nature. I believe that all musics can be placed in new contexts, and I strive for that in my own work.
